Happy Mother's Day!!

What? You didn't get a card? So sorry. I didn't get one either but I'll tell you what I DID get. Two children off to school!

Woo Hoo!!

Don't get me wrong. I got a little twinge when my boy went to class and hung up his backpack like a big kid. And I was incredibly proud when my girl found her name tag and sat at her table sweetly.

But let me tell you about walking into my house and hearing......

It brought a tear to my eye. Nothing. Yes, Marmie is still home with me but she was revelling too. She stretched out as big as she could get on the couch while she watched whatever cartoons SHE wanted to watch. Then she just walked in a big circle all around the livingroom. When Lion asked her why, she said it was "because I can." She got to have both beaters and the spoon and the bowl when the cookies were baking. She got to pick a movie and watch it from start to finish. She choose her own lunch. And she got to decide when she wanted to go for a nap.

I am cleaning the house and it's staying clean. I get to work out without anyone hanging off my leg in Warrior 3. I can eat an entire lunch without anyone calling me to break up a fight.

And now you understand why THIS is my Mother's Day! I'm so gleeful I rewrote "Leavin' on a Jet Plane." I won't subject you to my singing but I think you know the tune enough to sing it for yourself and truly appreciate it.

So here's to you my Back to School mom-pals. Enjoy your day!!

"They're Leavin on the School Bus."
All their bags are packed.
They're ready to go.
I will not throw them out the door.
Can't wait to wake them up to say "Good-Bye!"

Now the clothes are pressed.
The shoes are shined.
The alarms are set.
And ready to chime.
Already I'm so giddy I could fly!

So kiss me and smile for me.
Quick say "Cheese!" before I flee.
God bless ya, teach but I really gotta go.

They're leavin' on the school bus.
The quiet's setting in.
Finally the warring's at an end.
The summer has been real fun.
Sorry kids but now it's done.
It's back to school - the truest Mother's Day!

The truest Mother's Day!

Mom Tip #51

If you give a mom a grocery list, be ready to give her a cookie.

Did I mention that the Zoo has had 2 touring exhibits this week? Yeah well, we have. Needless to say it had been an interesting week. Which could explain a lot about this tip.

On my To Do list yesterday were three little words that I dread. “Make grocery list.” Ugh. But I pulled up my big girls and got to work.

If you give a mom a grocery list, she will write a few things on it. Then she will open the pantry to see what else is running low. In an effort to check the sugar, she will end up cleaning out and organizing the entire pantry only to learn that she is OUT of sugar. So she’ll write that on the list. She will then decide to check the other spices.

While in the spice cabinet (which she will also clean out and organize) she will remember that she has not taken anything out for dinner. She will go to the freezer to take something out and will start to stare blankly at the half gallon of rocky road ice cream. As water begins to drip from the ice maker she will snap out of it and run for the mop.

As long as she has the mop out, she will decide that this is a good time to mop the kitchen floor. Only when she opens the cabinet she will notice that she is very low on cleaning products. She should put those on the grocery list. The grocery list!!

She will try to focus and will open the next cabinet in line – the canned good cabinet. Can anyone say clean out and organize? As she writes tomatoes on the list she will remember seeing a coupon for tomatoes in the Sunday paper.

Two hours later after clipping, sorting, and filing coupons, she will try to remember what she was doing in the first place. Instead she will put away the (still dry) mop and switch out the laundry.

Then she will sit down and have a cookie. After all, she earned it! She’s been working hard!

You May Send Chocolate & Gift Cards

Or you can just refer to me as "Queenie!" That works too. I am Queen of the Dorks! That's right folks! My senior yearbook picture took the honors over at the Inn! Many thanks to those of you who heeded my pleas and voted. This is an honor I'll treasure for quite a while!

Should I be as proud of this as I am?!

So the crew over at MomDot is hosting the first Dottie Awards. My good pal Sissy over at My Kids Might be Martians nominated me as......Wait for it......drum roll please........

And I am giddy!! Should I really be this proud of being the Class Clown?! Other categories include...

Homecoming Queen (yeah not so much!)
Drama Queen (you can't really be nominated for something you avoid like the plague right?)
Miss Congeniality (what is Miss Congeniality anyway?!)
Band Geek (hide the high school year book and they'll never find out!)
Teachers Pet (the teacher has to know you're there first!)
Class President (not with my a-political record)
Captain of the Debate Team (again non-confrontational does not lend itself to this category)
Captain of the Cheerleading Squad (not until my legs are in better shape)
Class Clown (That's me!!!)
Biggest Nerd (hide the college year book and I should be able to avoid this one too)
Most Likely to Succeed (at what exactly?!)

Now it's all in good fun and should I win (out of about 5000 blogs being nominated) I'll get a nifty feature along with the other winners and I'll reign for about 6 months.

But it's pretty cool that someone (other then those of you on the payroll) noticed!! Thanks Sissy!!

::I nominated you for Drama Queen but it really goes to Aiden (change that to King for Matt's sake!) if you win!!::

We interrupt this blog....

'Cause apparently I might be a little bit cool!

So Sissy over at My Kids Might be Martians rewarded me with the following...

So now I get to pass it on to 7 bloggers who have influenced me and who I greatly enjoy!

1. Mommy Cracked

2. The X Mom

3. Sleeping Mommy

4. Wiping up Snot

5. Mommy Confessions

Unfortunately I'm still growing my blogroll and since Sissy and the Martians are the ones who awarded me I hate to pass it back. She would be #1 on the list otherwise. Thank you to my faithful readers for tolerating my nonsense. I love you all!! (cue Oscar music....)
