The ????

Grandkeeper and Silverback are on vacation at the ZIT's house this week.  That said, I didn't really expect to hear from them much this week even with the new additions.  However...apparently last night there was great discussion of this little blog of mine.

ZIT gave them all a rundown of all the alter egos that everyone has.  Zookeeper, Lion, Orangutan, Rhino, Marmoset, ZIT, Grandkeeper and Silverback.  I'm pretty sure she covered the security team too.

Then her hubster piped up and the text messages started flying.  "Why don't I have a nickname yet?!"

So I asked if he had one in mind or had any ideas about a name to which there was no real reply or idea.  Guess what you get to do now?  You get to help us create Uncle N's alter ego.  Some facts you should now.  If he sticks out his tongue his shadow looks like a zipper.  Yes, he's that thin.  And he's a paratrooper/master carpenter/engineer/drill instructor.

See why he doesn't have a nickname?! 

Now we kicked a few around last night. 
The Badger (a nod to the DI in him). 
The Wombat (a nod to...well, I'm not really sure). 
And then (his current preference - we think) The Flying Wonder Weasel.

But here it is Zoo Visitors!  Time to name the...well, Gonzo for lack of a better temporary idea.

A Letter from the Marmoset - Clothing Optional!

Dear Zookeeper,


I think we should both call an end to the silliness we have been playing at lately.



There is absolutely no reason for me to have clothes on. I mean, you want me to start using the civilized facilities, right? Pants and undergarments just slow me down. Let's leave those off shall we?



And that whole shirt concept? I'm just going to spill refreshments and dietary supplements on them anyway and I know how you feel about laundry. We'll just say that I'm providing a water conservation opportunity and doing my part for the environment.



Allow me my accessories of hats and shoes and all will be well.

In my next letter I plan to share with you how my use of my appendages as art canvases is actually another move on my part to conserve and be environmentally responsible. You should be proud of your work in teaching me civic responsibility at such a young age!

Creative or Lazy? Again!

If you follow along with my Wordless Wednesday's then you saw my lazy moment a few weeks ago when instead of going to get extra storage I just converted the Christmas garland into Valentine's garland.

Well, my lazy ways haven't really changed apparently. Watch my menu evolution for this week so far.

Monday - Pot Roast simmered all day in beef boullion. Served with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. (Reserved boullion)

Tuesday - French onion soup (the reserved boullion + 2 Spanish onions) simmered all day and served with homemade sourdough bread rolls.

Tonight - Pulled beef barbeque sandwiches (made from left over roast) served on (leftover) sourdough rolls. Oven roasted potatoes for a side.

Did you see that? I managed to make one meal on Monday and convert it into 3 meals. And I'm thinking that there is a very good chance we'll be Fridge Diving tomorrow night which will mean potato pancakes (leftover!) and French onion soup (leftover)! Is it possible that I just fed my family for four days on a $10 pot roast, 79 cent pack of onion soup mix and a $2 bottle of barbeque sauce?

So again I ask you...Creative? Or just Lazy?

Boredom Buster from the Zoo!

I don't know about the rest of you but now that the holidays are over, a lack of activity only makes EVERYONE (mom included) very crabby. Ratatouille only helped for so long today so I went back in my memory bank (waaaaaay back) and pulled a little boredom buster from my childhood. Hope it helps you through at least one Saturday this winter!






FYI! If your birds aren't terribly greedy and don't destroy your pinecones, you can refill them a few times before you have to throw them away.
